2011 Best Oscar Hair Styles

1. Hailee Steinfeld (Best Supporting Actress Nominee for True Grit) sported an age appropriate, simple up do. A sleek UP DO styled with strategically separated large barrel curls and adorned with a headband for a youthful appeal complimented her light make up and embellished pale dress.

2. Mila Kunis (Presenter/Black Swan) wore a sophisticated and dramatic style with a deep side part and side swept bangs. Her hair was gathered and pinned under at the nape, intricately tousled and separated for texture. Her style was classic and romantic, complimenting her lilac gown.

3. Jennifer Hudson polished, intricate, and haute couture her hairstyle rocked the runway! Jennifer’s up styled hair was perfect for her dress and showed that she takes Hollywood Glam seriously.

4. Anne Hathaway (Co-Host) wore a soft, classic chignon with face framing tendrils. The elegant style was sophisticated and chic, yet simple enough to let her red dress take center stage while walking the red carpet.

5. Amy Adams (Best Supporting Actress Nominee for The Fighter) Like host Anne Hathaway, Adams sported old Hollywood glamour for the awards, complete with soft, cascading waves. Perfectly coifed and gently styled, her classic look made a big statement in a soft spoken way.

Get Your Glam On! How to Get the Hottest Oscar Hairstyles

Hailee Steinfeld wore a very age appropriate hairstyle that is sure to be a popular request during prom and wedding season.
After blow drying the hair smooth, pull all the hair back into a smooth pony tail and secure high at the back crown area. Separate the pony tail into 5 or 6 smaller sections. Take each individual section and create large barrel curls by rolling the hair towards the base of the pony tail. Strategically place each barrel curl at the back of the head with hair pins or bobby pins. Spray lightly with fantasticfinish™ finishing spray. Complete the look by adding a narrow headband to embellish the style.

Mila Kunis was stunning in this beautifully designed up style.
Create a deep side part sweeping the hair over one eye. Gently pull the remaining hair back and begin to pin and secure at the base of the nape. Take random sections of hair and begin twist and turn sections and pin randomly at the base of the nape. Gently separate each pinned section of hair with your fingers to create more texture. Continue to work in this fashion until all hair is pinned in placed. Finish by spraying lightly with fantasticfinish™ finishing spritz. For added shine, lightly mist with fantasticfinish™ spray shine.

Jennifer Hudson wore an intricate design of curls which cascaded down the center back of this elegant up style.
Create a deep side part and lightly backcomb to create a high sweep in the front on both sides and the back crown area. Brush the remaining hair up and back and begin to secure with bobby pins down the center back of the head. Take sections of hair and create pin curls and secure randomly into place down the center back of the design. Continue to work in this fashion until you reach the nape area. With the remaining hair, secure into a low pony tail at the base of the nape and curl to create a soft wave. To give the hairstyle incredible shine, mist lightly with fantasticfinish™ spray shine.

Anne Hathaway wore many different hair styles while co-hosting the Oscars, but this classic chignon set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Blow-dry the hair for a smooth look. Leave out some hair at the front temple area to curl later for face framing tendrils. Brush the hair back into a low ponytail. Shorter side layers can be pinned back with jeweled hair pins or a head band. Get a firm grip around the base of the ponytail and use your other hand to twist the tail into a tight spiral. Hold the base of the ponytail with one hand, and then lift the tail straight up with the other. Begin to coil it clockwise around the base. When you've made half of a circle, release the hand holding the base and use it to hold the forming bun as you continue to coil the tail of the chignon. Complete one rotation, and then tuck the end of the tail under the chignon. Secure the chignon using a few prong-shaped bobby pins. Push one pin through at any outside edge, collecting a small amount of the bun as you make the insertion. Secure the opposite side with a second pin. Take a 1 inch curling iron and spiral curl the tendrils to create a softer, face framing look.

Amy Adams - Many celebrities choose to wear their hair in this fashion on the runway but no one did it better than Amy with her rich red hair color.
After blow drying the hair smooth, create a deep side part and brush the hair smooth with a paddle brush. Take a large barrel curling iron, at least 2 inches in diameter, and beginning at the bottom of each section, begin to create Marcel waves. Marcel waves are designed by alternating the curling iron to create an S shape within the hair section. After waving, let the hair cool down for a few minutes to set the waves. Take a large paddle brush and gently brush the hair to soften and mold the waves in place. Take the opposite side of the sweeping side part and tuck behind the ear for a more elegant look. Spray lightly with fantasticfinish™ finishing spritz.

2011 Worst Oscar Hair Styles

1. Kelly Osbourne’s (E! Countdown to the Red Carpet Host) over-teased, lopsided hair sculpture was misshapen, outrageously high and bulbous. While volume is popular, she should have opted for a softer, neater version to match her sleek dress. Sharon Stone must have went to the same stylist as Kelly as she was wearing the same scary hairstyle!

2. Best Supporting Actress Winner (The Fighter) Melissa Leo’s loose, untidy up do looked sloppy and unkempt. Although carefree up do’s are often intentional, Leo’s look was disheveled and incomplete, a contrast to her impeccable, intricate dress.

3. Russell Brand: The comedian’s hair was something to laugh about! His tousled locks were knotted, uncombed, and greasy looking—more suitable for a weekend concert than the Academy Awards red carpet.

4. Scarlett Johansson (Presenter) took ‘bed head’ hair to the next level. Her textured bob sported uneven waves and a messy part. The style lacked the sophistication and elegance one would expect for the Academy Awards.

5. Nicole Kidman (Best Actress Nominee) commanded attention in a Kimono inspired dress—too bad her hair was styled for the beach. Her simple ponytail lacked design and elegance, looking both too casual and undone for the Oscars.
